This work presents a study about the elements proposed by the playwright in Midsummer night’s dream, by William Shakespeare, and besides that information about the theatrical context in which the play was produced, the Elizabethan Period. Two performances of this play are analysed here: the first was produced by the Grupo Província in 1971, directed by Luiz Arthur Nunes; and the second was produced by the Companhia Rústica de Teatro in 2006, directed by Patricia Fagundes. In each case of study, it is examined how the theatrical elements together with the text compose the performance and how the directors´ conceptions followed the play in terms of fidelity, beyond the approaches utilized to pass from the text to the stage. The research demonstrates that this transition demands a true creation calling the need of a connection between the author’s proposals and their interpretation by the creators of the scene. |
