The present research proposes a reflection about the articulations between gender and the press, during then Brazilian media-civilian-military dictatorship established in 1964, delimiting and focusing such questions upon an analysis made on the newspaper “Lampião da Esquina” (1978-1981). With this purpose, we have covered the evolution on the sexual roles under the Queer Theory. Hereinafter, we have made some considerations on the minority groups representation and on the currently used acronym LGBTQ (lesbian, gays, bisexual, transgender and queers) on different issues of the cited newspaper, with a starting point on the analysis of front pages and of articles published on it. Besides, we have concluded that the gender issues and social homosexual organizations, at that time, were dominantly represented by male homosexuality.
