| Abstract: | Este estudo busca responder de que maneira uma série documental colabora para atualizar a imagem do atleta Michael Jordan para as novas gerações, através da análise da obra The Last Dance, uma parceria entre o canal esportivo ESPN e a plataforma de streaming Netflix. A série foi escolhida pois é fundamental para compreensão da concepção da imagem do atleta, bem como a sua trajetória na NBA, tendo impacto direto na população que possivelmente não viu a sua atuação em quadra. As principais temáticas abordadas são: jornalismo esportivo e documentários a partir de Rangel (2006), Coelho (2007), Galeano (2006), Teixeira (2008) e Maia (2005), e a construção de imagem de um atleta de esporte coletivo e a atualização da mesma perante a mídia, por meio de Halberstam (2013), Delgado (2018), Kotler (2000) e Sacristán (2021). A pesquisa bibliográfica é utilizada para a contextualização teórica, e o método de estudo de caso, para a análise da série documental. Este trabalho, portanto, mostrou que a série The Last Dance cumpriu a sua função e contribuiu para atualizar a imagem de Michael Jordan, reforçando suas marcas e feitos em um contexto diferente daquele vivenciado por ele, com outros jogadores e recordes superados. Ademais, também é responsável por abrir caminho para novas perspectivas acerca da produção de conteúdo no âmbito do jornalismo esportivo. Por meio dos documentários esportivos nas plataformas de streaming, histórias podem ser contadas através de novos ângulos e diferentes perspectivas.
This study seeks to answer how a documentary series collaborates to update the image of the athlete Michael Jordan for new generations, through the analysis of the work The Last Dance, a partnership between the sports channel ESPN and the streaming platform Netflix. The series was chosen because it is fundamental for understanding the concept of the athlete's image, as well as his trajectory in the NBA, having a direct impact on the population that possibly did not see his performance on the court. The main themes addressed are: sports journalism and documentaries from Rangel (2006), Coelho (2007), Galeano (2006), Teixeira (2008) and Maia (2005), and the construction of the image of a team sport athlete and updating it in the media, through Halberstam (2013), Delgado (2018), Kotler (2000) and Sacristán (2021). The bibliographical research is used for theoretical contextualization, and the case study method, for the analysis of the document series. This work, therefore, showed that The Last Dance series fulfilled its function and contributed to update the image of Michael Jordan, reinforcing his marks and achievements in a different context from that experienced by him, with other players and surpassed records. Furthermore, it is also responsible for opening the way for new perspectives on the production of content in the field of sports journalism. Through sports documentaries on streaming platforms, stories can be told through new angles and different perspectives. |
