A metodologia filosófica apriorista e seus críticos

Abstract

Este trabalho trata do papel das intuições, em especial, as intuições intelectuais, cuja característica desejada é de serem a priori, como fonte de justificação de crenças. Dentro da tradição da filosofia de análise conceitual, as intuições são vistas como elemento importante de evidência que suporta as crenças que delas derivam, mesmo que sejam vistas como falíveis. Esta ideia faz paralelo com a de que as percepções sensoriais são fontes de crenças sobre o mundo externo. O objetivo do trabalho é defender uma visão mínima de que intuições intelectuais a priori mantém seu status de fonte confiável de justificação para crenças, frente às críticas apresentadas pelos naturalistas, pelos defensores de que não há papel relevante para as intuições na filosofia, pelos que afirmam que as intuições não são parte do fazer filosófico e pelos que afirmam a falta de confiabilidade das intuições frente aos resultados de pesquisas levadas a cabo pela filosofia experimental. Essa defesa mínima é a da percepção de George Bealer acerca das intuições, que é acoplada à defesa de aparências (seemings) dentro do conservadorismo fenomênico defendido por Michael Huemer.

This work deals with the role of intuitions, specially, intellectual intuitions, whose desired characteristic is to be a priori, as a source of justification of beliefs. Within the tradition of the conceptual analysis philosophy, intuitions are seen as an important element of evidence that supports the beliefs that derive from them, even though they are seen as fallible. This idea parallels with sensory perceptions as sources of beliefs about the external world. This paper’s aim is to defend a minimum view that a priori intellectual intuitions maintain their status as a reliable source of justification for beliefs. This happens in the face of criticisms made by naturalists, by defenders of no relevant role for intuitions in philosophy, by those who claim intuitions are not part of the philosophical practice and by those who affirm the lack of reliability of intuitions due to research results carried out by experimental philosophy. This minimal defense is that proposed by George Bealer's understanding of intuitions, which is coupled with the defense of seemings within the phenomenal conservationism advocated by Michael Huemer.
