Identidade nacional na pintura de Glauco Rodrigues (1971)

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é relacionar a série Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha sobre o descobrimento da Terra Nova que fez Pedro Álvares Cabral a EL-Rei Nosso Senhor (1971) do artista plástico Glauco Rodrigues com a construção da identidade nacional brasileira. Para tanto, quatro objetivos específicos foram traçados: em primeiro lugar, o contexto político e cultural do período militar serve para compreendermos o meio em que a obra foi produzida. Em seguida, foi retomada a Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha (1500) e sua importância na formação do imaginário da identidade brasileira a partir do século XIX. Em terceiro lugar, analisaram-se as citações, presentes na obra do artista, referentes a momentos importantes da cultura do país. Por fim, buscou-se refletir a cerca da identidade nacional, sua construção e sua formação a partir das vinte e seis obras da série, levando em consideração questões como carnavalização, paródia, ironia, nacionalismo e imagem. Autores como Bakhtin, Stuart Hall, Benedict Anderson, Antony Smith, Didi-Huberman e Debray serviram como aporte teórico do trabalho.

The main goal of this research is to establish the relation between the pictorial series of Glauco Rodrigues called Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha sobre o descobrimento da Terra Nova que fez Pedro Álvares Cabral a EL-Rei Nosso Senhor (1971) and the creation of a Brazilian national identity. Henceforth, four objectives were set: first, the political and cultural context are paramount to understand the enviroment in which the work was produced. Following on, the Letter of Pero Vaz de Caminha to the King of Portugal (1500) has been recasted in order to understand its importance on the construction of an imaginary of the Brazilian identity during the XIX century. In third place, were analized the inferences that the artist makes in the series about relevant moments of the Brazilian culture. Finally, there is a reflection on the Brazilian national identity, its construction and formation as portrayed by the artist on his 26 paintings of that series, also taking into consideration issues like carnivalization, pastiche, irony, nationalism and image. Authors like Bakhtin, Stuart Hall, Benedict Anderson, Antony Smith, Didi-Huberman and Debray also constituted the theoretical support of this research.
