Entre a ética e a tecnologia: um diálogo com Emmanuel Levinas

Abstract

A intenção do presente estudo é apurar a potencial contribuição da ética da alteridade de Emmanuel Levinas na qualificação da relação médico-paciente. Levinas propõe uma ética fundamentada na não negação da alteridade, onde o Outro, que se apresenta de modo significativo, provoca um abalo na estrutura do Mesmo. Este questionamento do Mesmo demanda uma resposta que deve ser dada, não existindo possibilidade de escapar à responsabilidade de responder ao comando do Outro. Quando o eu é chamado inicia-se a instauração da justiça, ou seja, surge o campo para a relação ética. Relação que inicia no diálogo inaugurado na apresentação do Outro, através do desvelamento do rosto. A importância da ética como fundamento é ressaltada na crítica à idéia de que a tecnologia afasta o médico do paciente e na denúncia que o indivíduo nunca foi o foco principal da medicina moderna. Por fim, é sugerida a literatura como instrumento de auxílio na ruptura da Totalidade do saber médico, assim como, o uso responsável da tecnologia sendo um caminho na construção da justiça.

The present study aims at finding out the potential contribution of Emmanuel Levinas’ ethics of alterity in the qualification of the doctor-patient relationship. Levinas proposes an ethic based on the no denial of alterity, where the Other, which is introduced in a significant way, provokes a shaking in the structure of the Self. This questioning of the Self demands an answer that should be provided, giving no space to the possibility of escaping the responsibility of answering the Other’s command. When the Me is called, the instauration of justice is started, that means, there is a field for the ethic relationship. This relationship begins in the dialogue started in the introduction of the Other, through the unveiling of the face. The importance of ethics as a fundament is emphasized in the criticism to the idea that technology keeps the doctor away from the patient and in the denounce that the individual has never been the main focus of modern medicine. Literature is also suggested as an instrument to help breaking the Totality of medical knowledge, as well as the responsible use of technology as a way of building up justice.
