| Abstract: | The thesis is intended to investigate the symbolic repertoires constructed about inmates, potential inmates and the penal institution, as characters of books, articles and newspapers. We make use of the theory of social representations as a tool for understanding the establishment of boundaries between former inmates presently in freedom and inmates still in prison. We try to understand the ideological uses of these social representations. Our questioning has the intention to contribute to the discussion on the construction of prototypes, the formation of models and crystallization of discourses that create or maintain relations of domination and perpetuate the prison institution implicates and unquestioned in our times, as an alternative to maintain the sense of security and social order. We bring to the fore in this work three arguments that, in our póint of view, are the pressuposition for the historic maintenance of the prisons in our country: the first would be the modern reformist rhetoric, which generates the feeling of being always living in an unfinished project of society and, consequently, it must be continued and enhanced within the same logic, until exhaustion; the second would be to continuation and perpetuation of a prison ideology, tahat keeps turning around itself, producing and being produced by a kind of an “alienated midiatic presenteeism”, creator of instant crises, that separates the prison institution of its socio-historical context, and feeds a logic of lacking; and, finally, a third aspect, which refers to the close relationship between the history of prisons in Brazil and the criminal anthropology, that assumes human being as a product of biological determinism and pathology.
Esta tese buscou efetuar levantamentos dos repertórios simbólicos construídos acerca das pessoas presas, dos presos em potencial e da instituição prisional como personagens de livros, artigos e jornais. Empregamos a teoria das representações sociais como instrumento para a compreensão do estabelecimento das fronteiras entre as pessoas libertas e as pessoas presas e buscamos conhecer seus empregos ideológicos. Nossa problematização possui o intuito de contribuir para a discussão sobre a construção de protótipos, a formação de modelos e a cristalização de discursos que constroem ou mantém relações de dominação e sustentam a instituição prisional incrustada e inquestionada em nosso tempo, enquanto alternativa para manter a sensação de segurança e de ordem social. Trouxemos a tona nesse trabalho, três argumentos que, a nosso ver, são a base para a permanência histórica das prisões em nosso país: o primeiro deles seria a retórica reformista moderna, que gera a sensação de se estar sempre vivendo em um projeto inacabado de sociedade e que, por conseqüência, precisa ser continuado e aprimorado dentro da mesma lógica, até seu esgotamento; o segundo seria a permanência ou a perenização de uma ideologia prisional, que gira sempre em torno de si mesma, produzindo e sendo produzida por uma espécie de “presenteísmo midiático alienante”, inventor de crises instantâneas que descolam a instituição prisional de seu contexto sócio-histórico e alimentam a lógica da falta; e por fim, um terceiro aspecto, que se refere à estreita relação entre a história das prisões no Brasil e a antropologia criminal, com sua tomada do ser humano pela via do determinismo biológico e da patologia. |
