Novos olhares, novas leituras das crônicas de Machado de Assis e de Carlos Drummond de Andrade

Abstract

Esta tese apresenta uma análise hermenêutica de crônicas de Machado de Assis, autor do século dezenove, e de Carlos Drummond, autor do século vinte. Apresenta, também, dados biográficos e relativos à produção escrita desses autores. As idéias de Gadamer, Thompson e Ricoeur formam o suporte teórico da análise proposta, bem como contribuições relevantes de outros estudiosos e críticos. Resultados desta pesquisa sugerem que uma abordagem hermenêutica aos textos dos referidos autores poderá ser adequada e viável na área de estudos literários em suas relações com a Filosofia apesar de contradições e limitações que possivelmente surgirão de tais ligações. A análise sugerida, aqui poderá auxiliar leitores a melhor compreender e interpretar as visões de mundo de Machado de Assis e de Carlos Drummond de Andrade, através do manuseio e trabalho com seus textos. A crença subjacente a essa proposta aponta para possibilidades de futuras aplicações de uma análise hermenêutica a outros textos literários produzidos por diferentes autores brasileiros, bem como aos benefícios que um maior diálogo entre Literatura e Filosofia poderão trazer ao leitor.

This thesis aims at presenting a hermeneutic analysis of chronicles by nineteenth century writer Machado de Assis and by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, a twentieth century Brazilian author. It shows biographic and written production data related to both of them. The ideas of Gadamer, Thompson and Ricoeur have been used to support the proposed analysis, which has been complemented by relevant contributions of other scholars and critics. The findings of this research suggest that a hermeneutic approach to texts of the above mentioned authors may be suitable in the field of literary studies and their interrelationships with the area of philosophy, in spite of contradictions and limitations that might emerge with these possible linkages. The suggested means of analysis may help readers get a better understanding and interpretation of the worlds of Machado de Assis and Carlos Drummond de Andrade through the handling of their texts. The underlying belief here points to possibilities of further application of this hermeneutic analysis to other literary texts by different Brazilian authors, as well as to the benefits a closer dialogue between literature and philosophy could bring to readers in general.
