| Abstract: | A presente dissertação busca analisar a trajetória de José Marianno de Mattos na Revolução Farroupilha (1835-1845). Carioca, militar e mulato, o personagem que é objeto de estudo deste trabalho se estabeleceu nos mais altos cargos, durante o movimento farrapo, ao ser Ministro da Guerra, da Marinha e do Exterior, Vice-Presidente da República Rio- Grandense e Presidente em substituição a Bento Gonçalves em algumas passagens de período entre 1839 a 1841. Assim, acompanhando a história de Mattos, os espaços por onde circulou, os postos/cargos assumidos e as redes de relações estabelecidas que colaboraram para o sucesso de sua trajetória, pretende-se questionar uma historiografia que por muito tempo silenciou esta participação no movimento, bem como a cor deste personagem. Procurando fazer uma reflexão sobre as construções sociais existentes na primeira metade do Brasil do século XIX, e fundamentando-se em fontes diversas, principalmente nas correspondências deste período, o referido trabalho propõe pensar o mulato entre os farroupilhas, bem como no seu contexto revolucionário.
This dissertation aims at analyzing the trajectory of José Marianno de Mattos in Farroupilha Revolution (1835-1845). Carioca, soldier and mulatto, the character, who is the object of study in this paper, has established himself in the highest positions during Farrapo movement as Minister of War, the Navy and Foreign Affairs, Vice-President of Rio- Grandense Republic and Replacement for the President Bento Gonçalves in some passages in the period between 1839 and 1841. Thus, it is intended to challenge a historiography that, for long time, has silenced his participation in the movement and also the skin color of this character by following the story of Mattos, the places where he circulated, the jobs / positions he assumed as well as the established social networks that contributed to the success of his trajectory. Looking for a reflection on the social constructions existing in the first half of the nineteenth century in Brazil and relying on several sources, mainly in correspondence of this period, this work proposes a deep thinking on the participation of mulatto among farroupilhas, as well as in its revolutionary context. |
